I've been thinking of starting a blog / website for a while for several reasons.  Somewhere to collect my thoughts.  A focus to exercise those thoughts and see if they stand up to interrogation.  I enjoy writing so it would be an outlet for the frustrated author in me.  But mainly, to let my opinions out into the world to see what, if any reaction they provoke and what if anything I can teach or learn through those interactions.

I chose 'The Spirit of Software' as a title as it ties in with my first passion, cricket and reflects quite nicely my feelings towards my job. I want to work in an environment of excitement, achievement and collaboration but not at the expense of dignity and respect.  More will become apparent soon on exactly what this means as I shall, briefly explain, The Spirit of Cricket and why I believe it's exactly the thing to promote in a collaborative working environment.

I am 45 years old, have been married for 21 years (yes to the same woman!) and have a teenage daughter.  I worked in the print manufacturing industry creating bespoke management systems in Quality, Health and Safety and Environment for ISO accreditation.  I now work in software development using agile principles and practices, initially as a test analyst then as a QA.

I also believe that good old fashioned common sense should play a larger part in what we do and how we do it.  I hope to expand on this over time and share the wisdom that my Granddad passed to me.

Until next time, thanks for reading. Ady
